The Lock Screen is the first thing you interact with when using your iPhone.
The lock screen can display a customized wallpaper, as well as various informational widgets. It’s also the first line in security on your iPhone, as a properly set up lock screen will keep prying eyes (and other such nasties that don’t involve eyes) away from your personal data.
Locking & Unlocking
I’m not going to go so elementary that I’m telling you how to lock and unlock your iPhone, but there is some stuff you may not have realized. You can find the official documentation on the subject here.
Waking
Obviously, you can hit the power/lock button on the side to immediately lock or wake your iPhone.
Did you know you can also simply raise your iPhone with your hand to wake? This is enabled by default in settings in modern iPhones.
I recommend keeping this enabled because, well, the accelerometer sensor handles this, so it’s not going to affect your battery in any meaningful way, and it’s convenient. Put those sensors to work!
You can also tap the screen to wake your iPhone up and check notifications.
If your phone can see your face, it’ll also unlock using Face ID, so you don’t have to type in a PIN code or trigger facial scanning again.
